Before you launch your adventure, take a few minutes to get familiar with Florida’s boating and fishing rules. These quick guides make sure every day on the water is fun, safe, and worry-free.
Boating Safety
We’re all about making memories, safely.
Whether you’re cruising on a FishSki, paddling a kayak, or exploring on a paddleboard, keep these basics in mind:
Boating Basics
1️⃣ Wear It & Secure It
Always wear a life jacket and attach your engine kill switch cord. It’s the easiest way to stay safe and legal.
2️⃣ Keep Your Distance
Operate at a safe speed and give other boats plenty of space. No wake jumping, spraying, or reckless turns.
3️⃣ Stay Sober on the Water
Operating any watercraft under the influence is illegal and dangerous. Save the drinks for after the ride.
Paddlecraft Safety
4️⃣ Balance & Visibility
Keep three points of contact in kayaks or paddleboards, stay low, and use bright clothing or a light at dusk.
5️⃣ Know the Water
Watch tides, currents, and weather— especially in Cape Coral’s canals and intercoastal zones.
6️⃣ Respect Wildlife
Cape Coral is manatee country! Obey “No Wake” and “Idle Speed” zones, and never chase wildlife.

Required if born on or after Jan. 1, 1988. Take a free course at BoatUS.org or get a temporary 90-day certificate.
